Benefits Back and Forth at WI Capitol

Wisconsin Republicans are ready to approve some sweeping changes to public benefits in the state.

The State Assembly is scheduled to vote today on a plan that would tie unemployment benefits to the state’s jobless rate, vote on another plan that would require people to prove they are still eligible for BadgerCare, and vote on a third plan that would ban publicly-funded guaranteed income programs. Republicans say their goal is to get people back to work in Wisconsin. The proposals are almost certainly DOA; Governor Evers is not expected to sign any of them into law.
