Fort McCoy Fire Continues, Fire Warning High

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today for a focused area in Wisconsin. 

It includes La Crosse and the Wisconsin Dells at the southern end and, at the northern edge, just south of Eau Claire to just south of Wausau.  Madison is NOT included in today’s Red Flag Warning.  Firefighters have been fighting two wildfires in the region.  The Jack Pine Fire near Necedah is now contained. T

Meanwhile, another 85 homes and other buildings have been evacuated as the Fort McCoy fire continues to spread in Monroe County.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says the fire is now 60-percent contained, and three-thousand acres have been burned in the fire, so far.  About 70-percent of the fire is on the grounds of Fort McCoy, where a prescribed burn was being done the day the fire broke out, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
