The “Northwoods Wisconsin” episode of the “Travels with Darley” travel show will re-air on Thursday, March 2 on PBS Wisconsin Create. The show will air at 9 a.m.; 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Central time. From the comfort of home, experience sites and stories of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with “Travels with Darley” host and producer Darley Newman.
“There are so many great places to discover right in your own backyard!” Darley said. “To produce the episode, we enlisted locals to highlight accessible and diverse adventures that combine nature, food and history for solo travelers and adventurers and families.”

Darley traveled from her home in New York City to visit some of the many environmentally important natural areas and historic destinations of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in 2021. Her Northern Wisconsin adventures included everything from mountain biking and fishing to boating and log rolling.
Darley climbed all the way to the breathtaking top of the historic Mountain Fire Lookout Tower in Mountain, Wisconsin. She hiked on the North Country Trail and through the historic old-growth forest in the Cathedral Pines State Natural Area in Oconto County. She listened for bugling elk near Clam Lake, and enthusiastically joined in with HistoriCorps volunteers as they painstakingly helped to restore Forest Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin. Darley fished in Butternut Lake and kayaked near Cable. During a pontoon boat ride on Lake Namekagon, she tried a surprising snack that is rooted in Northern Wisconsin history: cooked cattails! The cooking instructions are included in the show.
