Local Parks and Rec Leader Awarded

On Feb. 2, Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association held the 2022 Awards Banquet where Dawn Comte, CPRP was the recipient of the “WPRA Professional Award of Merit,” highest professional award given by WPRA to a park and recreation professional in the state of Wisconsin.

Comte has been a WPRA member for 34 years and continues to be admired and respected for her professional leadership and commitment to the parks and recreation management profession. Dawn has held several positions in the parks and recreation industry over the years with continued community involvement. “I love this profession and the professionals/friends I have known and recently have gotten to know through my involvement in WPRA and beyond,” Comte said.


Her professional roles for the City of Eau Claire include Recreation Aide from 1996-1998, Recreation Program Supervisor 1998-2008 and Superintendent of Recreation/Recreation Manager since 2008. In the 2014 National Park and Recreation Association, Comte was a Gold Medal Finalist and received her CAPRA Accreditation. Dawn’s additional professional leadership roles in WPRA include Recreation Section Chair Elect, Chair and Past-Chair, ASA Liaison, Region I Representative, Conference Committee and President Elect, President and Past President. “Dawn has served WPRA and her community for her entire career and is an outstanding choice for this Award,” the WPRA Awards Committee said.


Comte actively involves herself both professionally and within the City of Eau Claire community. She participates in numerous community programs, including the Clearwater Winter Parade, Eau Claire County Chronic Disease Task Force, Healthy Communities Committee and the Visit Eau Claire Board of Directors.
