A crash on Highway 53 at the Chippewa River disrupted traffic.
Today (02/01/2023) at 10:49am the Chippewa Falls Police Department responded for a report of a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 53 in the northbound lane on the bridge over the Chippewa River.
Wisconsin State Patrol, Lake Hallie Police Department, Chippewa Fire District, Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency Services and the Chippewa County Highway Department responded. The Mayo 1 helicopter was launched as well as a precautionary measure but was not ultimately needed.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a car was traveling northbound in the right lane on Highway 53 and struck a deer. The driver reported her vehicle then broke down and came to a stop on the bridge. A semi traveling northbound lightly struck a van that had swerved to avoid the car before striking the stopped car. The driver of the car reported sustaining non-life threatening injures and was transported by ambulance from the scene. The occupants of the other vehicles did not report they had been injured.
Law enforcement is continuing to investigate and citations may be issued.
