Barron Co. Plans Citizen Law Enforcement Academy

The Citizen Law Enforcement Academy is a program designed to give citizens insight into law enforcement and the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.

This program is offered free of charge. It will be held in the spring and fall. The program will be held on five Wednesday evenings, every other week, beginning on March 8, 2023 from 6pm until roughly 8pm. Topics covered during the academy will include, but not be limited to: 

Sheriff’s Department overview, including tours of the jail and dispatch center and court system; 

Patrol Functions, including body camera demonstration (what actually happens vs. what the camera captures); 

Police canine demonstration; 

Drug presentation; 

Crime Scene Investigation; 

Use of Force Continuum / Shoot – don’t shoot scenarios; 

Emergency Response Team including Armored Vehicle, tactical gear, robot, drone, and thermal capabilities demonstrations; 

Court System presented by a judge; 

The dates of the Spring 2023 class will be March 8, March 22, April 5, April 19, and May 3. The location of the classes will be at the Barron County Justice Center. Please note that dates/times may change depending on the subject, equipment availability, or emergency situations. 

To attend the Citizen Law Enforcement Academy you must pass a background check. Individuals with felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions within the past 5 years will not be accepted.
