The Senate is passing a landmark same-sex marriage bill. Maine Senator Susan Collins thanked her fellow Republicans who voted for the bill.
The Respect for Marriage Act passed Tuesday afternoon as 12 Republican senators voted along with Democrats to advance the bill, which recognizes gay marriage nationwide. The bill was first introduced after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade. The Respect for Marriage Act is now headed to the House, which is expected to pass it, before heading to President Biden’s desk.
With a connection to our sate, Democratic Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin hailed the vote.
