Saluting Our Veteran’s

Saluting Our Veteran’s

Today is Veterans Day, a day set aside to honor the patriotism of the armed services past and present.

National Veterans Day ceremonies take place at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia today, just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC.  Wreath-laying ceremonies will take place at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and World War Two Memorial in DC.  People are expected to line the streets of New York City for the nation’s biggest Veterans’ Day Parade.   Similar celebrations of America’s heroes will take place all around the country.

Veterans Day became a legal holiday in 1938. It was originally known as Armistice Day, and was meant to commemorate the day in 1918 when an armistice went into effect near the end of World War One.  That armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of that year.

Locally there are events planned and The Highground showcases our hero’s year round.

We offer our sincere gratitude and salute all of our local Veterans and their families.
