“We had an especially strong slate of applicants this year,” said Aaron White, Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. Executive Director. “With seven applicants, this was also the second-highest number of participants in the program’s 17-year history, and we think that is really good news. Interest in establishing a business downtown remains high, and a thriving business core really benefits our entire community.”
The recipient of the The Jim Mishefske Grand Prize Award was Lily Beez – a luxury floral and gift shop planning to open its doors at 303 Main Street. The top award includes a $5,000 cash prize sponsored by Royal Credit Union, a six-month Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. (DECI) business membership and a three-month flex membership with CoLab. The $2,500 Honorable Mention Award was presented to The Cranky Buzzard – a diner/restaurant featuring regional ingredients and a “beautifully retro, yet elevated ambiance” taking over the former Galloway Grille at 409 Galloway St. This award also includes a six-month DECI membership and three-month CoLab flex membership. The restaurant will be celebrating its Grand Opening on Tuesday, November 1 st
.
In a bit of a twist this year, DECI was able to provide two $1,000 Innovative Idea Prizes thanks to some extra sponsorship dollars provided. The Eau Claire Refillery, an eco-friendly store at 207 N Barstow St received the first of two Innovative Idea Prizes. The store is eliminating packaging waste by allowing customers to buy or bring refillable containers to purchase products like dish soap, cleaning products, shampoo, and more. Laser Fix received the second Innovative Idea Prize. Located at 130 S. Barstow St, Laser Fix is currently providing affordable, flexible, and friendly laser hair reduction treatments, with more treatments and services soon to be added. These award recipients also receive a six-month DECI membership.
