Sheboygan Co. D.A. Plans to Enforce WI Abortion Ban

Sheboygan County’s D.A. say he will prosecutor doctors who continue to provide abortions in the state.

District Attorney Joel Urmanski this week said he will enforce the state’s near-total ban on abortions. Sheboygan is one of three communities in Wisconsin where abortions were provided. In the others, Milwaukee and Madison, prosecutors have promised not to enforce the law.

Urmanski says he is a prosecutor not a lawmaker, and says it’s his job to enforce the law, not decide what the law should be.Nearly 40 state representatives wrote a letter to the governor yesterday asking him to use state money to support options for women who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant.

The letter says despite different opinions on abortion, there is now an opportunity to come together and find common ground to ‘prevent unwanted pregnancies from occurring and support those unplanned pregnancies that do occur.’
