WI Dairy Groups Looks Into “Mooo”La for Milk

One of Wisconsin’s largest dairy groups wants to change how farmers are paid for milk in this country.

The Edge Dairy Cooperative yesterday unveiled its plan to help dairy farmers in Wisconsin exist under the government’s milk-pricing system. The biggest proposed change would be more transparent pricing and timely payments. Edge wants farmers to know not only how much they are being paid, but how milk processors decided on that price. The group also wants to end exclusive contracts and volume limits, and wants to end special deals for certain farmers in the state. Federal officials say all milk producers in America will have to agree before there will be any changes to how milk is sold.
