Gov. Evers Looks to Reinstate Tuition Freeze

It’s an election-year reversal.

Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday said he wants to reinstate the University of Wisconsin’s tuition freeze.  Republican lawmakers first froze tuition in the UW System under former Governor Walker.  Governor Evers opposed the freeze when he ran for governor four years ago.  Now, he wants to use federal coronavirus dollars to send more money to the university while freezing costs for Wisconsin students.  Republican lawmakers are expected to ignore the governor’s proposal.
