Suspect Named; Investigation Continues in Waukesha

There are a lot of questions about how the suspect in Waukesha’s parade tragedy was out of jail.

Mark Mayfield has more:

Democratic Madison state Senator Melissa Agard on Monday said she wants an open and transparent investigation into the low bail that Darrell Brooks got just last week. Brooks posted a thousand dollars and walked out of jail on November 11th.

Milwaukee County’s district attorney says he is going to look into how the suspect in Waukesha’s parade tragedy got out of jail so easily.

D.A. John Chisholm yesterday said Darrell Brooks’ one thousand-dollar bail in his most recent case was ‘inappropriately low.’ Brooks was also released from jail back in February on a 500 dollar bail, that was ordered after his trial on a felony weapons charge was delayed. Chisholm said the investigation into Brooks’ case will be an internal review.

A vigil was held Monday evening in Waukesha, Wisconsin where the community is mourning the loss of five lives during a Christmas parade.  NBC’s Jay Gray has the latest.

Five people were killed and more than 40 others were injured, many of them children.  Police Chief Daniel Thompson identified the suspect as 39-year-old Darrell Brooks and they plan on charging him with multiple homicides.
