Milwaukee Police Facing Shortages

Milwaukee Police may be looking at a staffing crisis.

The city’s police officers’ union yesterday said they are nearly 200 officers short right now, and another 100 or so could retire soon. Milwaukee Police Association President Dale Bormann says a lot of officers simply don’t want to deal with the abuse they get, and said many don’t feel supported. Milwaukee says 87 of those open sports are for patrol officers, and the rest are for higher ranking officers. Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission didn’t hire any new officers last year because of the coronavirus. That means the next class of officers won’t be available until early next year.
