The Wisconsin National Guard is short about 10-million-dollars for paychecks, and commanders aren’t sure what’s going to happen.
The guard last week said Congress has not yet reimbursed the National Guard Bureau for the massive troop deployment to Washington, D.C. earlier this year. The lack of federal reimbursement means the Guard Bureau has not sent Wisconsin the 10-million-dollars earmarked for paychecks through the end of September. Commanders in Wisconsin say they are looking at places and programs to cut because of the lack of money. Wisconsin Congressman Bryan Steil says Congress needs to make the troops a priority and get them paid.
