Judge Refuses Plea

An Eau Claire County judge is refusing a plea agreement in a local nonprofit embezzlement case.

Renelle Laffe, the founder of Hope in the Valley charity, is facing charges of theft in a business setting greater than ten-thousand dollars.  Laffe is accused of funneling money from the breast cancer charity’s Dragon Boat Festival, the event she was co-director for.  On Thursday, Judge John F. Manydeeds rejected the agreement, advising prosecutors and the defense to work towards a new resolution.
