There’s No Place Like Home…

A costume believed to be worn by actress Judy Garland has been found at Catholic University in Washington, DC.  Employees discovered the dress in a shoebox tucked away in the school’s theatre department as the school was preparing for renovations.   Drama department lecturer Matt Ripa said he was the one who discovered the piece of Hollywood history.

Officials believe the dress was worn by Garland in The Wizard of Oz.  Actress Mercedes McCambridge, a friend of Garland, presented the costume to Father Gilbert Hartke, head of the school’s drama program in 1973.  A curator at the Smithsonian Museum of American History said the dress is probably authentic after he found it had similar characteristics to other costumes from the movie.
