Wisconsin’s largest business group is trying to answer Governor Tony Evers’ claim that there’s no evidence the enhanced federal unemployment benefits are keeping people from returning to work.
Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce yesterday pointed to research from a UW-Madison economist, data from the hiring website Indeed, and comments from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco that all say the extra 300 dollars a week in federal unemployment is enough to keep some people from returning to work. Governor Evers over the weekend said he wouldn’t sign a proposed law to withdraw Wisconsin from the enhanced unemployment program because he hasn’t seen any data that suggests the extra benefits are keeping people on the couch.
