Budget Push for I-94 Expansion

Budget Push for I-94 Expansion

The Republicans who are writing Wisconsin’s next state budget want to expand I-94 just west of Milwaukee.

The powerful Joint Finance Committee yesterday approved plans to add more lanes to I-94 as part of the state’s transportation budget. It will cost Wisconsin 82-million-dollars just to plan for the project, but the work itself is expected to be over a billion-dollars. While lawmakers are ready to spend more on I-94, they are looking to spend less on buses in Milwaukee and Madison. Lawmakers agreed to cut transit funding to both cities by 41-million-dollars. Some of that would be reinvested into local road projects across the state.
