Investigators say it’s too early to know just what caused the fire at the closed Verso paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids, but the company says it may have been lightning.
Crews from a half-dozen fire departments fought the fire at the mill Tuesday night. The damage was mostly contained to one of the mill’s stacks. No one was hurt. A company spokesperson yesterday said the mill was apparently struck by lightning. Verso closed the mill last year but still owns the property.
