Locals say scammers are calling to say the Chippewa County Sheriff has a warrant for their arrest.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says the caller is also telling locals to settle their warrant with a payment over the phone or a gift card. They say the sheriff’s office will never call about a warrant, or ask for money over the phone. They say this is despite the caller’s ability to disguise the number as the sheriff’s office.
