The governor’s budget includes 400-thousand-dollars that would pay high schools across the state to change their team names. The money would come from tribal gaming in Wisconsin. It’s not clear just how many schools in Wisconsin still have Native American names or mascots, but over 200 school districts have signed a petition asking them to change those names. The name change money, along with almost all of the rest of the governor’s budget, is expected to be tossed aside by lawmakers in Madison.
