First Charges Filed in D.C.

D.C. authorities are filing their first federal charges against two men who participated in yesterday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol. 

Mark Leffingwell is being charged with trespassing, assaulting a federal law enforcement officer, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.  Documents say he punched a Capitol officer repeatedly with a closed fist.  Christopher Alberts is charged with carrying a nine-millimeter handgun and ammunition on US Capitol grounds. 

In other updates, we’re learning more about the San Diego woman killed by a Capitol police officer during the violence at the U-S Capitol. Marilyn Hyder has details.

When it comes to reaction from the Hill, Nancy Pelosi says she will start impeachment proceedings unless President Trump is removed from office immediately. Today on the floor today, the House speaker said Vice President Mike Pence should invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump now, because he engaged in seditious acts by inciting an assault on the U.S. Capitol yesterday.

Speaking with reporters, the California Democrat said Trump committed an “unspeakable act.”  She said this violence will forever stain our nation’s history because it was instigated by the President.  Pelosi said if Pence and Trump’s cabinet do not act, Congress may bring forward articles of impeachment.

House Speaker Pelosi is calling on VP Pence to take action against President Trump .
