Chippewa Falls police are warning against a few common holiday scams.
Police say scammers call victims and claim social security numbers have been flagged for various crimes, so the victim must pay a fee with gift cards or the police will come and arrest them. Another scam hacks or copies another’s social media account claiming to be a close relative or friend needing money to get out of jail, which is also to be paid in gift cards.
Police say no government agency would ask for payment over the phone, and especially not with gift cards.
