UW-Madison says the choice is either furloughs or layoffs.
Chancellor Rebecca Blank yesterday told 21 thousand university employees that she is choosing to furlough them in order to avoid dramatic cuts. Blank said there will be some cuts at the university, those will be announced in the next few weeks. UW-Madison is trying to recover from a 100 million-dollar-hit last spring because of the coronavirus.
Blank says the furloughs will last through the first six months of next year.
