Champagne is Picked, not Poured at Local Orchard

 Dixon’s Apple Orchard’s Champagne apples are ready this weekend starting on Friday, October 9th from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. These apples are only available at Dixon’s Orchard.

“This year’s crop for all of our apple varieties was truly amazing,” states owner Becky Mullane. She also adds, “It is going to be a perfect fall weekend to catch the prime of our Champagne apple crop.”

The orchard has a long history dating back to Fred Dixon, who started the family orchard in New Mexico in 1944. In 2011, a wildfire swept through the orchard. However, Champagne apple clippings were saved and incubated in a nursery. In 2014, Fred’s granddaughter Becky and her husband Jim moved to Cadott to rebuild their family business. Champagne apples were first ready in Wisconsin last year.

Mullane says, “The Champagne apple is a spicy-sweet; something extra special!” Along with the Champagne apple, other varieties of apples are available for purchase including Honeycrisp, Macoun, and McIntosh apples. They offer pecks and half bushels of all apple varieties.Dixon’s also offers freshly pressed apple cider by the gallon made from their Champagne and Honeycrisp apples.
