A person is dead from eastern equine encephalitis or EEE.
Wisconsin and Chippewa County health officials yesterday said it is the first such death recorded in the state this year. The virus causes brain inflammation. It is spread to horses, other mammals and more rarely to humans via the bite of an infected mosquito. Health officials say horses in three northwestern Wisconsin counties have been diagnosed with the disease.
