CITY COUNCIL VOTES DOWN AID TO BUSINESSES IN MADISON

Business owners in downtown Madison are not going to get any help from the city to rebuild after last month’s violent riots and looting.

Madison’s city council last night voted down a proposal to spend 250 thousand-dollars on the downtown area. Alderwoman Rebecca Kemble said downtown is the ‘whitest neighborhood in the city.’ She wants to see Madison spend its money in minority neighborhoods instead.

A number of downtown businesses are still boarded-up or closed after rioters smashed their windows and stole their merchandise.
