An accident on the train tracks leaves a Minnesota woman dead.
It happened on Saturday afternoon just before 12:30. Buffalo County Communications Center received a report of a pedestrian struck by a train in the City of Alma at a crossing near the 300 block of South Main Street which people commonly use for fishing. Emergency services responded and located 70 year old Linda Sanden, of Albert Lea, MN along the railroad tracks near the crossing with fatal injuries.
Initial investigation of the incident indicated that Linda and a family member were getting ready to go fishing when Linda began to carry fishing gear across the railroad tracks. An eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train was nearing the area and observed Linda on the tracks. The train crew made efforts to warn Linda and attempted to stop the train, however they were unable to avoid collision.
