A familiar statue in La Crosse’s Riverside Park could be the next statue to go.
La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat yesterday started the process to remove the Hiawatha statue from the park. The family of the artist who carved the statue say they want it back. Kabat also said that given the mood of the country, it is time to remove the statue.
The huge wooden carving has been in Riverside Park since the 1960s. La Crosse’s park board will talk about taking it down on Thursday.
