Governor Tony Evers says he’s ready to activate the National Guard to protect state property.
The governor today says the damage assessment is underway at the Capitol and the Tommy Thompson Center following last night’s protests which turned violent. Evers says it’s important to remember the protests started in order to demonstrate against racism and structural inequality and the work must continue to reconcile those issues.
But, not all approve of the way Evers has handled the protests. Congressman Tim Tiffany is calling for the resignation of Governor Tony Evers.
The 7th District Republican released a statement today saying Evers ignored the crisis brought on by weeks of protests. Tiffany says the governor has ignored incidents of looting, mayhem and intimidation and has stood by as the state Capitol is damaged and statues defaced and destroyed. The Congressman says public officials who refuse to stand up against those seeking to destabilize and destroy institutions should resign.
