TEACHERS UNION CALLS FOR REMOVAL OF SCHOOL OFFICERS

In the halls of school, there is a different message as police officers may soon be no longer welcome in Madison schools.

Madison’s teachers’ union yesterday issued a statement that said school resource officers should be removed because of the “racialized trauma” they cause. The union had said in the past it wanted officers in schools as a way to protect kids and teachers. Now, the union says the negatives of having officers in schools outweigh the positives. Madison’s school board will vote on its police officer policy on Wednesday.
