CHECKING IN WITH WI PRIMARY PLANS

It may be vote-by-mail for everyone in Wisconsin next month.

Governor Tony Evers told reporters yesterday that he is still not looking to cancel or move next month’s primary election. But the governor did say he is considering a plan to have the election be mail-in only. The governor didn’t say how that might work. The deadline for people to request an absentee ballot in Wisconsin is next Thursday.

But in the meantime, election managers in the Chippewa Valley need younger people to volunteer for next month’s election. Clerks in Eau Claire, Chippewa, and Dunn counties say they don’t have enough people to work the polls for next month’s primary. Usually, Dunn County Clerk Julie Wathke says, older people volunteer. But those are the people most at risk for the coronavirus. Wathke says without enough volunteers, voters could face long lines on Election Day.
