A picture of a puppy and a pigeon snuggling together is touching the hearts of millions. That’s because the eight-week-old Chihuahua can’t walk and the bird can’t fly. But together, they’re perfect. And they’re best friends. Sue Rogers of the Mia Foundation says publicity from the image has been good for the non-profit animal rescue center for disabled animals.

Herman has been at the Western New York shelter over a year after a brain injury kept him from flying. Rogers put him in a dog bed with Lundy, who recently arrived, and thought they looked cute together. She took pictures, posted them on Facebook and it took off. As for those asking about adoptions – Herman is a permanent resident but Lundy needs a forever home. He’s only 17 ounces right now, but will get fitted with a sort of wheelchair to help him walk.
