Yelling at the ref at your kids’ high school football game could soon be against the law in Wisconsin.
A handful of lawmakers are supporting a proposal that would make it a misdemeanor to harass or intimidate referees or other officials. The WIAA says the idea is to get parents to behave better. The punishment is mostly community service, but there could be fines or jail time.
WIAA Executive Director Dave Anderson says the poor treatment of refs and officials is a national crisis, and is hurting high school sports.
