LETTUCE LINKED TO ILLNESS

Federal health authorities say tainted lettuce from central California has now been linked to over 100 illnesses in 23 states.

The FDA says the new number more than doubles the magnitude of an ongoing E. coli outbreak connected to romaine lettuce grown in California’s Salinas Valley.

The agency is urging consumers to check the labeling on their lettuce, and to throw it out if it’s from Salinas Valley.  E. coli is a fecal bacteria commonly found among stockyard animals, and can cause diarrhea, vomiting and kidney failure.
