  • Democratic Governor Tony Evers is reversing course on a commitment he made in his first State of the State address to withdraw from the ACA lawsuit.  Evers changes his position after a memo was released yesterday from the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau that stated there is no legal way for the governor to fulfill his promise.  A spokeswoman for Evers said yesterday that the governor hasn’t directed the attorney general to take a specific course of action. 
  • The U.S. Senators from Wisconsin are likely to be on opposite sides of a pair of key votes on the partial government shutdown.  The Senate will vote today on competing bills to end the shutdown.  A Republican measure includes more than five billion dollars in fund for border walls, while a Democratic bill that funds the government without the additional wall money.  Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin opposes money for the wall, and Wisconsin’s GOP senator Ron Johnson supports the wall funding.  The two have not confirmed how they will vote on each of the bills. 
  • Former Republican Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch is taking on a new position based in Washington, DC.  Kleefisch announced yesterday that she had accepted a job as executive director of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission.  The commission is coordinating commemorative and educational efforts celebrating the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote.  Kleefisch will oversee the group’s three million dollar budget that expires in April 2021.
