Miss Wisconsin Makes History

Willow Newell is the first Black woman to be crowned Miss Wisconsin 2025.  Newell represented Miss Racine at Saturday’s event and competed against 29 other contestants.  She won in several categories including top vocalist and earning scholarships and awards.  She majored in Musical Theatre from Carthage College and graduated this year.  She advances to the Miss America 2026 competition in September in Orlando.

Traffic Stop Leads to 5th OWI

Frankie Gus Paschke, 50 years of age, from New Richmond has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense. Marshfield Plans Cooling Stations

Due to the projected heat wave, with heat indexes potentially exceeding 100 degrees. The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department will allow access to their lobby for use as a cooling station. This will take place from Friday, June 20th, through Sunday, June 23, 2025. They will have chairs set up in their lobby for sitting only from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM.This is a temporary cooling station that will not be open overnight and does not provide sleeping accommodations. Summerfest Heats Up

Mother Nature is cranking up the heat just as the acts fire up for Summerfest in Eau Claire and organizers are preparing several measures to keep attendees cool with a heat wave in bound for this weekend. The event is allowing guests to bring 20-ounce, factory-sealed water bottles into the grounds. Water misters are also being set up throughout the area to provide relief from the heat. WI Unemployment Holds Steady

The seasonally-adjusted Wisconsin unemployment rate held steady in May.  The Department of Workforce Development says preliminary numbers show a three-point-three-percent unemployment rate, the same as the month before and point-nine-percent lower than the national average.  Data shows Wisconsin’s labor force decreased by 77-hundred over the month.

Out of the Nest! Five Falcons take Flight

Five of the peregrine falcons born at We Energies facilities across Wisconsin have taken their first flights.  The chicks, named Scott, Atlanta, Eclipse, Leopold, and Breezer, were born earlier this year.  They’ll be spending the next few weeks learning how to fly.  The nests are being live streamed on We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service YouTube page.  More than 460 peregrine falcons have been born since the We Energies Falcon Program started in 1992 in an effort to reduce extinction

Two Charged As Result of Multi-Agency Investigation

 The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is announcing that charges have been filed in Rock and Dane Counties against two individuals in connection to a multi-agency investigation.   According to the criminal complaints, Paul VanDuyne Jr. and Andrea Whitaker are alleged to have conspired to gather or create poisons and use them to attempt to murder two different women with whom VanDuyne had previously been involved. Pre-Trial Set for La Crosse Man

A LaCrosse man is accused of possessing child pornography.  Arresting documents says Daniel Oyer was taken into custody Wednesday during a traffic stop.  This after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTip earlier this month.  The 35-year-old is facing two counts of possession of child pornography.  He’s been released on bond and has a pre-trial hearing set for next Wednesday.
