Suspect Arrested in Holmen Homicide Case

Authorities are reporting the arrest of a suspect in connection with a Holmen homicide.  Investigators Sunday morning found a man dead inside a home on Granum Street.  The cause of death for the victim was later determined to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.  Thirty-eight-year-old Jacob Klaver was taken into custody Tuesday night in Minnesota on a charge of 1st degree intentional homicide.

“Action!” State Budget Includes Millions for Film

More locations across Wisconsin may end up on the big screen with the passage of the new state budget.  The two-year spending plan that was signed by Governor Evers yesterday includes five million dollars for film production and investment tax credits.  A provision in the budget also sets up a State Film Office in Wisconsin.  It has been over a decade since the state offered any financial incentives for filmmakers.

Funding Lands on UW-La Crosse Campus for Science Center

UW-La Crosse is receiving state funding to aid in the continued development of its new science center.  The first of two buildings planned for the Prairie Springs Science Center opened seven years ago but the second building has remained unfunded.  As part of the new state budget signed yesterday by Governor Tony Evers, 194-million dollars is being allocated for the project.  Construction is expected to begin next spring.

A fire causes and estimated $75,000 in damages. On Thursday July 3rd, at approximately 11:14 AM the Eau Claire Fire Department (ECFD) was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 1900 block of Trinity St.   Medic 10 was the first arriving unit and reported smoke coming from the front of the home with an occupant waiting outside. Two Year Budget Approved, Tax Cuts and Child Care Investments Planned

Wisconsin’s two-year budget is officially approved.  Governor Tony Evers signed the new budget into law early this morning after coming to an agreement with state Republicans yesterday.  The new budget comes with one-point-three-billion dollars in tax cuts, more funding for the University of Wisconsin, and investments in child care and K-12 schools.

Old School Gets New Life as Apartment Complex

The once-silent hallways of a historic school are echoing with new life in Randolph. Former High School Teacher Denies Assault Allegations

A former Appleton high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student is denying the allegations in court.  Rebecca Ryan pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a student yesterday.  Investigators say Ryan was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a victim who was 17 years old at the time.  She is scheduled to return to court on September second.
