Third Time is a Charm? Cooke Plans Another Run

Wisconsin small business owner Rebecca Cooke is running again in 2026 for the third congressional district seat. The district covers most of Western and Southwestern Wisconsin. It’ll be Cooke’s third attempt at taking the seat, which is currently held by Republican Representative Derrick Van Orden. Cooke lost to Van Orden by about two percent of the vote last November.

Altoona Man Charged with 12th OWI

A Western Wisconsin man is charged with his twelfth OWI. Prosecutors say a woman called 9-1-1 after someone drove into her yard and knocked over her garbage cans. Someone else in the home followed the driver and got a photo of their license plate. The plates were matched to 63-year-old Mitchell Bundy. Officers say he admitted to drinking and was slurring his speech. Bundy has had eleven OWI charges dating back to 1993, including some in South Carolina and Oklahoma.

The entire state of Wisconsin saw plenty of sunshine and most cities saw record high temperatures hit.  Yesterday, one day after Day Light Saving. Shipyard District Official in Green Bay

Created in 2021, the Shipyard District is officially recognized in Green Bay. Yesterday, officials with the city announced the new partnership with the district. Mayor Eric Genrich spoke at a press conference about his visions for the new district. Housing, business development and redevelopment of the land were the three main points in the mayor and city leaders’ vision. The area spans from West Mason Street to Lombardi Avenue and South Ashland Avenue to the Fox River.

Billions Set for WI Infrastructure

More than four-billion dollars is earmarked for Wisconsin infrastructure in Governor Evers’ 2025-2027 budget proposal. The money would go toward major projects in 26 counties. Evers says all of the investments in his proposal will create more than seven-billion dollars in economic activity and support more than 37-thousand jobs. The budget also includes one-point-six billion dollars for the Universities of Wisconsin and 325-million for correctional institutions.

EC City Council Considers Resolution to Prevent Budget Cuts

The Eau Claire City Council is considering a resolution that would ask Congress not to make cuts to several federal programs. Councilmen Roderick Jones and Andrew Werthmann introduced the resolution, which would ask that Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and Social Security programs don’t face budget cuts. That’s in response to a U.S. House plan that would cut 880-billion.  A public input session will be hosted tonight, and the Council will vote on the resolution tomorrow.

WI Children’s Hospital Expands

A Madison children’s hospital is expanding. American Family Children’s Hospital says it’s adding almost 50 rooms to its sixth floor, which was left empty when the hospital opened in 2007 to leave room for future growth. The hospital says it had to turn away more than a hundred children in 2023 since it didn’t have enough available beds. Construction is scheduled to start next year, and the new units will open in late 2027.
