Fallen Officer Laid to Rest

The community is mourning the officer who lost his life in an ambush was laid to rest yesterday.  Milwaukee Police Officer Kendall Corder was fatally shot a couple of weeks ago.  His partner Christopher McCray was also shot and survived.  A nine-mile procession, visitation and funeral services took place before Corder was transported to Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery.

Spread the Word: Bread Recall Affects WI

Hartford Bakery, Inc. is voluntarily recalling hundreds of loaves of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” because the product may contain undeclared hazelnuts. The recall announcement says, “people with a nut allergy or severe sensitivity to hazelnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.” The company said the recall includes about 883 loaves of bread across six production lots. Brothers Wrongfully Convicted Of Murder Request $2M Each

Two brothers wrongfully convicted of 1987 murder are seeking over two-million-dollars each from the Wisconsin Claims Board. This follows testimony yesterday by Robert and David Bintz, who both spent more than 20 years falsely incarcerated. The two were exonerated in 2024 after DNA evidence identified William Hendricks as the likely perpetrator. A claim was filed in February by the brothers seeking compensation above the state’s 25-thousand-dollar cap. A decision is expected in weeks, with the case potentially sent to lawmakers.

Accused Nurse Takes Plea Deal

A western Wisconsin nurse accused of elder abuse is avoiding jail time.  Mary Brown of Durand has taken a plea deal that drops two felony charges.  She was arrested in 2022 for cutting off the foot of a hospice patient without his permission.  Brown has now pleaded no contest to misdemeanor negligent abuse of a patient.

State Seeking Input on HWY 124 Bridge Repair

The state is asking for public input on plans to repair the Highway 124 bridge in Chippewa Falls.  Built in 1949, the bridge needs a sidewalk, joint replacements and other structural work.  The project isn’t scheduled to begin until 2030, but traffic will be closed during the project.  Residents can leave comments and SEE MORE WITH AN EASY CLICK HERE.

Higher Price Tag for Higher Education: UW Tuition Hikes Approved

Tuition at the Universities of Wisconsin is increasing for resident undergraduate students.  UW President Jay Rothman asked for increases up to five-percent earlier this week, and the request was approved during a Board of Regents meeting this morning.  Tuition hikes will take effect during the 2025-2026 school year.

Victims, Suspect Identified in WI Double Homicide

A couple in their sixties are identified as the victims in a double homicide in the Town of Middleton, and investigators say their son is the suspect.  The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says David and Teresa Pabst were found dead in their home on Tuesday.  The suspect, 25-year-old James Pabst, was later found dead after taking his life during a standoff.  The victims’ causes of death are still being investigated pending autopsies from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
