Towanda Alicia Brown , 47 years of age, from Minneapolis MN has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 1st offense, with one child in the vehicle under the age of 16. On 3/15/25 at approximately 1:50AM, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped to assist a disabled vehicle on Interstate 94 eastbound at MM76. Mega! Co-Op Closes

The remaining Mega! Co-op gas station locations are closed.  The CEO of the chain announced the closures were made due to a financially difficult year.  The company has been working through restructuring after declaring bankruptcy in 2023 and closing several stores.  Mega! Co-op was founded in Eau Claire in 1935.

Investigation Continues After Death of Soldier

The death of a soldier at Fort McCoy is under investigation.  Officials say an Army Reserve Soldier died at the installation on Friday.  The soldier was at Fort McCoy for a planning conference. We are expecting more details as the investigation continues.

Holcombe Man Charged

A Holcombe man charged in a violent domestic assault in December is in custody.  Michael Smith has been taken into custody and is being held in the Chippewa County Jail.  He was charged in Chippewa County Court with attempted strangulation and suffocation, intimidating a victim, three counts of battery and domestic abuse.  Prosecutors say a woman told an investigator in January about a domestic assault involving Smith that happened three days before Christmas.  The woman still had a black eye

Search Continues for Missing Teen, Photos Released

A search continues for a missing pregnant Beaver Dam teen.  AMBER Alert released two new photos of 16-year-old Sophia Franklin and the man she is believed to be with, 40-year-old Gary Day.  He is the father of her unborn child.  Franklin has been missing since February.  Day is charged with child abduction and child enticement.

Badgers Bounce West

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team is heading out West for the NCAA Tournament.  The Badgers earned a three-seed in the East Region and will face 14-seeded Montana in the first round.  The game will be played Thursday at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado at 12:30 pm Central time.  The winner will face the winner of the match up between sixth seeded BYU and tenth seed VCU on Sunday.

Altoona Police See Drop in Emergency Calls, Rise in Chases and Citations

Emergency calls are slightly down in Altoona, while police chases, traffic stops, and citations are up. The police department says there were ten police chases last year, compared to two in 2023. Altoona police also report fewer use of force events, with only ten in 2024. Police chief Kelly Bakken says the department’s goal is to keep use of force as low as possible.

Clerks Prepare for Early In-Person Voting

Early in-person voting starts in Wisconsin next Tuesday. State supreme court, state superintendent, and local races will be on the ballot. Online registration deadlines have passed, but voters can still register on Election Day or during in-person voting, which runs from March 18 through the 28th.
