Charges Filed in Deadly Buggy Crash

Charges have been filed in Vernon County after a horse-drawn buggy crash that claimed the life of one person and injured another. Mother, Baby Recovering in Hospital. Barron Co. Officials Update Candy Lane Homicide Incident

Additional information from the 650 Candy Lane homicide in the City of Barron was released today. Below is the update: The suspect has been identified as Marcus Hinojosa 17 y/o, of Almena WI.  Hinojosa died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  The condition of the juvenile female victim is hospitalized and stable at this time per family. Victim Identified, Suspect Arrested

Authorities are sharing the name of the person killed last week in a crash in Eau Claire.  Police began a pursuit of a speeding vehicle just after 2:30 a.m. October 1st that ended near West Clairemont Avenue and Craig Road.  Reports say the suspect — 27-year-old Anthony Reyes — who had turned off his headlights to try and evade police — crashed into another vehicle whose driver then died at the scene.  The deceased victim has been identified as 35-year-old

Animals Rescued From Overcrowded Property

Hundreds of animals were rescued from an overcrowded property near Wisconsin Dells over the weekend.  Brown Paws Dog Rescue said on Sunday that it had received a call to help a local farm.  Nearly 100 dogs, over 100 rabbits, three dozen goats and some chickens were rescued from the farm.  Rescue groups are now looking for foster homes to help the animals regain trust.

Vernon Co. Rollover Under Investigation

Two people were left injured following a single-vehicle rollover accident in Vernon County.  The accident happened on County Road SS in Viroqua.  One person was taken from the scene to a hospital for care and there has been no word on their condition.

Eau Claire Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the scene of a collision on Saturday.  A scooter and a larger vehicle collided outside of Carson Park.  Two people were hurt.

EC Hosts K9 Officer Convention

Residents in the City of Eau Claire may notice an influx of law enforcement officers this week.  The city is playing host to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association 2025 Conference.  K9 handlers and their working dogs from around the state will be training at over a dozen sites throughout the Eau Claire area.  The event is closed to the public.

Baldwin Requests Pay Hold During Shutdown

Baldwin says she has asked the Financial Clerk to withhold pay until the government shutdown is over. On Friday, October 4, 2025 at 5:41 PM, Fairchild Police was notified of a disorderly conduct incident at the Fairchild Cenex C-Store on US Hwy 12 where a male was reported to have threatened people and displayed a knife.
