The Irvine Park Zoo in Chippewa Falls is announcing the arrival of new residents.  The zoo reports they’ve recently taken in a pair of eight-week-old red foxes and a pair of eleven-month-old porcupines in addition to hissing cockroaches and a tarantula.  The zoo is open daily from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

Growers in Western Wisconsin and around the state may be eligible for financial help through the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.  Applications for Specialty Crop Block grants are now being accepted.  Grants ranging in value from ten-thousand dollars to 100-thousand dollars are available for folks who are eligible.  More details can be FOUND WITH AN EASY CLICK HERE.

Mandatory milk testing is now underway in Wisconsin.  State agriculture officials launched the program last week in an effort to monitor bird flu and the potential impact on dairy cattle.  Experts are planning to collect one milk sample from each of the state’s dairy farms every month.  There have not been any avian flu infections in Wisconsin cattle reported so far.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is advising drivers to keep an eye out for turtles right now.  Nesting season for turtles is about to start in the state.  Wildlife experts say female turtles are more likely to cross roads near bodies of water this time of year as they look for a spot to lay eggs.  Anyone who sees a turtle nest is asked to leave it alone and to contact DNR.

Investigators say a gas leak led to a deadly home explosion in the Town of Springfield. A couple, Rudolph and Ursula Niederhauser were found dead in their Springfield home one year ago tomorrow. Both were 82 years old. The exact cause and location of the leak hasn’t been found, but the Dane County Sheriff’s Office says no evidence of criminal activity was found.

The trial of the man accused of killing and dismembering Sade Robinson starts today with jury selection.  Maxwell Anderson is facing charges including first-degree intentional homicide.  Prosecutors say he killed Robinson after she met him for a first date in April 2024.  Her remains were found in locations across Milwaukee County, and connected to her through DNA.  Anderson’s trial is expected to last two weeks.

About one-thousand nurses at UnityPoint-Meriter went on strike this morning.  They began picketing outside of the hospital on South Park Street this morning. The strike is set to last five days.  They’ve been negotiating with the hospital administration since January.  The main sticking points are pay, staffing, and workplace safety.

An emergency rule set in January to try and combat lead poisoning is now permanent in Wisconsin.  The rule lowers the lead poisoning threshold.  The Department of Health Services says that change will make more families and children eligible for lead poisoning and intervention services, including screening and follow-up.  The Centers for Disease Control says even a small amount of lead exposure can reduce a child’s learning capacity and ability to pay attention.  Several Milwaukee Public Schools facilities were closed

Students in a New Product Development course at University of Wisconsin-Stout recently completed a 3 1/2 week project developing toolless bed connections for Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC (Ashley), a global leader in furniture manufacturing.
