No Injuries Reported in Prescott Boat Explosion

Authorities are offering more details on a weekend boat explosion in Prescott.  The incident happened Saturday at the Miss Croix Yacht Harbor.  Wisconsin DNR reports the boat was at the fuel dock where its operator unsuccessfully tried to start its engine twice.  On the third try, the engine exploded throwing eleven people into the Mississippi River.  No serious injuries were reported.

West Nile Virus Confirmed in Barron Co.

The West Nile Virus is detected in a Wisconsin resident for the first time this year.  The Department of Health Services says the case was found in a Barron County resident, and mosquitoes gathered in Milwaukee and Lafayette Counties have also tested positive.  The virus is spread to humans, birds, and other animals through bites from infected mosquitoes.  It is not spread from person to person.

DNR Continues to Monitor After Bear Attack

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is no longer setting traps to capture the bear that attacked a Barron County woman.  Karen Frye was attacked in her backyard in Comstock about three weeks ago.  The 69-year-old was taken to a hospital and is recovering.  The DNR says it’s released several unrelated bears from traps, but hasn’t spotted the bear involved or her cub since it started setting traps around the victim’s property.  The department says it’ll still monitoring the area.

CARES Program Hits Milestone

A non-violent behavioral response hotline got its ten-thousandth call last week.  The Community Alternative Response Emergency Services, or CARES, program says it reached the milestone last Tuesday.  CARES says it avoids sending non-violent people to emergency rooms or jails by sending paramedics and mental health crisis workers to respond.  CARES started providing services in Madison in 2021.

WI Healthcare in Top Ten

A new report by WalletHub compares states based on metrics like average monthly insurance premiums, the number of physicians, and the percentage of insured residents.  Wisconsin health care ranks ninth-best, with New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Minnesota at the top of the list.  The study shows Mississippi and Alaska have the worst health care.

CVTC Earns National ACT Award

 ACT has recognized Chippewa Valley Technical College’s efforts to help students earn college credit for the skills and experience they bring with them. The College received ACT’s 2025 Higher Ed Policy Exemplar award for two-year colleges – the first time ACT has given this award – for CVTC’s prior learning assessment practices. WI Man Attacked by Bull

A 76-year-old man is in the hospital after being attacked by a bull.  Iowa County officials say crews were called into a farm around noon.  There they found a man who was reportedly attacked by a bull. The man was transported by MedFlight.  There is no information on the severity of the injuries.

Walker Not Running for Governor

Wisconsin’s former leader will not be a candidate in the 2026 election for governor.  Scott Walker announced in a video Sunday that he would not be running.  He says he would back a common-sense conservative.  It comes after Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez launched her campaign late last week.

Gov. Evers Announces More Pardons

Governor Tony Evers has announced the pardons of 204 individuals.  That brings his total up to over 16-hundred.  He says the individuals have worked hard to build a life outside of their past offenses.  People can apply for pardons if their sentence ended at least five years ago and have no pending charges.  Sex offenders are not eligible for a pardon.

WI Food Program to Lost Funding

FoodWIse has lost their federal funding.  USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education used to fund the statewide program.  Lawmakers in DC voted to eliminate all SNAP-Ed funding with the Big Beautiful Bill.  The cut in funds will take effect on September 30th this year.  FoodWIse says they teach over 30 thousand residents about topics like food safety, healthy choices and physical activity.
