Gas prices are starting to rise in Eau Claire.  Over the past week, regular gas has gone up by about 15-cents per gallon.  That’s according to Triple-A that reports the citywide average at two-85.  Diesel prices are nearly a-dollar more per gallon.

The City of Marshfield’s contracted garbage and recycling services with Waste Management will notcollect on Christmas, December 25, 2023 and New Year’s, January 1, 2024. Wisconsin will be represented in the 135th Tournament of Roses parade in California. The Pulaski High School Red Raider will soon head to Pasadena to take part in this year’s parade. Pulaski High School is one of 20 bands that will march in the New Year’s Day parade. This year’s parade will feature a global theme of the world of music.

A Janesville man is being sentenced to life in prison for a 2021 death in the Wisconsin Dells.  A Columbia County judge sentenced Jeremy Mondy on multiple charges, including First-Degree Intentional Homicide.  Authorities say police were sent out in February 2021 to check on two people staying in a room at 1015 River Road in Wisconsin Dells.  Officers were met by Mondy who said he was okay, but a woman was dead.  Evidence presented at trial showed Mondy destroyed evidence

A Crawford County pharmacist is spending months behind bars for purchasing monkey torture videos online.  Federal prosecutors say 40-year-old Kenneth Herrera was sentenced to a year and one day in prison yesterday for violating the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act.  Investigators say Herrera directed an Indonesian man to harm macaque monkeys in specific ways and paid one-hundred dollars each for videos of the abuse.  Judge William Conley described the videos as “abhorrent” while informing Herrera of his sentence.

No injuries to report following a farm fire in Buffalo County.  Thick black smoke filled the air yesterday afternoon in Mondovi.  Firefighters found a shed up in flames when they arrived but no animals were inside. 

Thousands of local residents will soon be paying more for their utilities.  Xcel Energy has announced a rate increase for 2024.  Customers will see about a-dollar increase per month for electric and a little under three-dollars more per month for natural gas.  Officials say the increase will allow them to make upgrades in the future.
