Wisconsin’s latest bird flu case is in Trempealeau County. The state’s Department of Agriculture yesterday said a commercial flock in the county tested positive for the flu. DATCP says over 51 thousand birds will be destroyed to try to contain the flu. Wisconsin’s only other bird flu case this year was in a flock of backyard chickens. Five birds in Taylor County were infected there.

Read MoreThe Eau Claire man who left a halfway house and went missing in September has been arrested in Mexico. Shane Helmbrecht is now in custody in Chicago, awaiting extradition to Wisconsin. He is accused of the first-degree murder of Jenn Ward, who was shot and killed in 2016. Helmbrecht was found not competent to stand trial, but the Eau Claire County Attorney General’s Office says it wants to see if that is still the case.
