Farmland Preservation Program Designates New Areas

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) designated more than 21,000 acres in Green Lake and Sauk counties as new agricultural enterprise areas (AEAs) effective January 1, 2024. DATCP also designated a modification to expand an existing AEA in Monroe County by more than 20,000 acres effective January 1, 2024. Village of Germantown Police Investigate Skimming Device

On December 30th, 2023, the Germantown Police Department responded to Sendik’s after they reported a point-of-sale credit card skimming device was found on one of their self-checkout terminals. The public will get a chance to say goodbye to Herb Kohl next week. The Kohl Foundation yesterday announced a public memorial for next Friday at Fiserv Forum. Kohl Died last week at age 88. He served four terms as a Democratic U.S. Senator in Wisconsin, but was equally well known for owning the Milwaukee Bucks. Barron Co. Officials Search for Suspect

Authorities in Barron County say they know who they are looking for in a violent home invasion from last month.  A judge yesterday issued an arrest warrant for Ryan Charpentier, from Little Canada, Minnesota.  The sheriff’s office says he and another man broke into a 70-year-old man’s home back in December, tied the man up, and stole guns and cash.  At one point, the man told investigators, Charpentier used a taser on his face.  Detectives say they zeroed in on

Western Dairyland Prepares for Homeless Count

Eau Claire’s homeless population continues to grow.  The folks at the non-profit Western Dairyland are preparing for their latest homeless count later this month.  They expect to find more people without a home.  The July count found 44 people living in the streets in Eau Claire.  Since then, national numbers say homelessness has jumped 12-percent.  Western Dairyland’s Dale Karls says homelessness has been growing in the area since about 2021.

Changes Ahead for Jennie-O

There’s a change coming to the Jennie-O plant in Barron County.  The company yesterday said the plant will no longer harvest turkeys.  Instead, the plant in Barron will focus on other tasks including ‘smoking, cooking, canning, curing, refining, or rendering products.’  No one will lose their job because of the change.  Jennie-O says it’s making the change to focus on demand from customers.  The transition will begin next month.

Johnsonville Announces Closure

Hundreds of people at one of Johnsonville’s plants in Sheboygan County will  be out of a job by the end of the year.  The company yesterday said it is closing its Meadowside plant in Sheboygan Falls.  Currently, 390 people work at the plant, and Johnsonville says they will all keep their jobs through at least June.  Johnsonville says the plant is closing because the company bought another packer, Salm Partners.  There is no word just when the plant will close,

Wisconsin lawmakers look to make AI child porn a crime.  A legislative committee yesterday heard the first arguments for a new law that protects children from artificial intelligence, and the dark side of how it can be used.  State Rep.
