Bus Rollover Under Investigation

On Tuesday, 12/05/23 at approximately 2:48 PM, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a school bus crash on 205th St, just north of Co Hwy S. Preliminary investigation revealed that the school bus was traveling northbound on 205th St when it left the roadway, entered the ditch, and overturned onto its side. The school bus was carrying 20 occupants, which included 19 students and the driver. The driver, along with two students, were transported to local hospitals

McCandless Files Another Appeal

Ezra McCandless is trying to appeal her murder conviction, again. McCandless’ lawyers this week filed an appeal with Wisconsin’s appellate court. Her lawyers want a new trial, and want her interviews with the police to be kept out of that new trial. Brewers Ballpark Funding Hits Home Run

Governor Evers has signed the deal to spend a half-billion dollars in taxpayer money on the Brewers ballpark. The governor yesterday went to American Family Field to sign the package. The agreement will spend just over 350 million-dollars from the state, and another 135 million from Milwaukee and Milwaukee County on renovations and upkeep at the stadium over the next 27 years. WI DOT Charges Up New EV Laws

Wisconsin’s DOT boss is warning that the state could lose-out on millions of dollars for electric vehicle chargers because of a quirk in state law. DOT Secretary Craig Thompson yesterday said 78 million-dollars from the federal government is at risk. The money has been earmarked to build a network of fast EV chargers across the state, but the money is in jeopardy because Wisconsin law doesn’t allow anyone other than a utility to sell electricity by the hour. Man Pleads Guilty in Animal Abuse Case

A Lafayette County man is pleading guilty on 20 animal abuse charges after 200 goats were found deceased on his property.  Kyle and Stephanie Lincicum of Darlington are facing felony 40 charges, including intentionally failing to provide food for an animal and mistreatment of animals.  Kyle Lincicum is scheduled to appear in court in February, and Stephanie Lincicum will appear at her sentencing hearing in January.

Bill Addresses Housing, History

A new bill introduced in the Wisconsin legislature would amend the state’s Discrimination in Housing law.  Wisconsin Senator Democrat Jeff Smith of Eau Claire is sponsoring the bill, which would bar landlords, property owners, or agents from asking potential tenants about evictions from more than five years prior — or deny housing because of such evictions.  Smith says the goal of the bill is to help fight a Wisconsin housing crisis, and he hopes Republican colleagues will allow it to

Camp Randall Heats Up

The University of Wisconsin has started installing a heated field at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.  The upgrade will cost five-point-five million dollars and allow games to run safely during snowy or icy conditions starting in the 2024 season.  The school says the investment will also save them money over time, since snow removal from the field can cost up to 100-thousand dollars.  Crews began tearing up turf to start the installation process yesterday. >>Meeting Will Decide How Altoona Dam

A new report names Madison, Wisconsin the eighth best U.S. city for singles.  The study, conducted by WalletHub, compared 180 cities based on populations of single versus married people, online dating data, and the average price of a meal for two.  The results say Seattle is number one, followed by Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Austin, Reno, and Tampa.  Columbia, Maryland and Warwick, Rhode Island were named the two worst cities for singles.

Twist in WI Murder Case

There is a twist in Wisconsin’s eye drop murder case. Jessy Kurczewski’s lawyer has asked to be released from the case before she is sentenced after investigators found a 37-page letter they say was a plot to plant a fake deathbed confession.
