Christmas Village Reopens After Damage

Police in Chippewa Falls say a woman is in custody after she drove through parts of the Christmas Village in Irvine Park. It happened yesterday morning. Officers say they got a call about someone running down Christmas decorations with a van about 7:45 a.m. When they arrived, police say parks department crews were trying to pen the woman’s van in. Train Site Speeds Up

The latest round of train money in Wisconsin means Madison will need a new train station site, and quickly. Madison has been looking at six spots for a possible Amtrak station for years, but this month’s announcement of a half-million dollar grant to study a line from Madison to Minneapolis is jumpstarting the process. New Plan Makes Homeless Camps a Crime

A new plan at the Wisconsin Capitol would make unauthorized homeless camps a crime. Much of the plan, Senate Bill 669, deals with allowing cities and counties to set-up spaces in parks or other public lands to allow homeless camps. WI DNR Says Young Elk Was Killed in Car Wreck

A Tennessee woman was arrested in Chippewa after destroying parts of the popular Irving Park Christmas Village, apparently intentionally. Authorities received a report Wednesday morning, December 13th, that a vehicle was ramming into the fences and park displays at Irvine Park. WI Drug Trafficking Leads to Federal Prison

A Mexican citizen is sentenced to five years in U-S federal prison for trafficking meth in Madison. Emmanuel Herrera Sanchez was caught in 2022 selling ten kilograms of meth – worth 49-thousand dollars – to a confidential informant. He was found to be part of a larger organized drug operation. The Chief U-S District Judge sentencing Herrera Sanchez says the drug crime is particularly serious due to the amount of meth involved.

A new Wisconsin program will give nearly 42-million dollars to reduce homelessness and expand affordable housing statewide. Governor Tony Evers says the HOME-American Rescue Plan will also support programs aiming to help low-income and housing-insecure families. The federal program was created in response to the COVID pandemic and is giving out five-billion nationally. Applicants looking to develop rental units and provide support services can apply for funding on the State of Wisconsin’s website.
