Van Orden Reports Violence at His Local Office

Staff at the Eau Claire office of Congressman Derrick Van Orden say someone tried force their way inside in the hours after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman in Minnesota.  Van Orden says the man was shouting slurs, spouting anti-ICE rhetoric and pounding on the doors.  The Congressman says the incident was a direct result of Democrats’ violent rhetoric. MKE Prosecutor to Take Over Open Bench Spot

A Milwaukee County prosecutor is taking over a spot on the bench vacated by former Judge Hannah Dugan.  Governor Tony Evers announced Owen Piotrowski will take the spot in Branch 31, less than a week after Dugan resigned from her post.  Piotrowski was expected to take over in Branch 38 for the retiring Judge Jeffrey Wagner in March, but he agreed to start earlier because of a more urgent need.  Dugan resigned from her post January 3rd after being convicted

State Officials Announce Water Infrastructure Investments

State officials are announcing a 484-million-dollar investment to upgrade wastewater infrastructure across the state.  Governor Evers says the investment is aimed at improving water quality by reducing pollution and replacing aging systems.  The funding will support 82 municipalities, with an emphasis on small and disadvantaged communities.  Money is being distributed through the Clean Water Fund Program and includes both low interest loans and principal forgiveness.

WI Teen Pleads Guilty to Killing Parents

The Waukesha teen accused of killing his mother and stepfather in their home last year has officially pleaded guilty.  Court records show 18-year-old Nikita Casap admitted to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.  Investigators say the killings were tied to an extremist plot that included plans to assassinate President Trump.  Casap was planning to plead guilty earlier this week as part of a plea deal.  Prosecutors say several other charges were dismissed as part of the deal, but will still

Child pornography charges are pending against a Black River Falls man.  Twenty-two-year-old Peyton Littlegeorge-Dietzler was arrested Wednesday after the execution of a search warrant on his residence.  Authorities are recommending a possession charges.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

Investigators are working to determine the cause of a Wednesday morning fire in Viroqua.  Crews from multiple department responded to a burning South Center Street home just before 9 a.m.  No people were hurt, though a dog died as a result of the fire.

Sparta Man Picks Up 7th OWI

A Sparta man finds himself in a familiar position after being arrested this week for the seventh time on an OWI charge.  Jackson County Sheriff’s officers pulled 42-year-old Leroy Woodworth over Tuesday night after they say his driving showed signs of impairment.  Woodworth was arrested after being put through a field sobriety test.

Warming Shelters, Ice Rinks Closed

The City of Eau Claire is closing three warming shelters and their outdoor skating rinks.  Higher than usual temperatures are leading officials to close their Boyd, Roosevelt and Putnam warming shelters through Saturday.  As for the skating rinks, people are being asked to stay off of the ice for now so as to allow the rinks to recover quickly when the temperatures drop again.

Millions Set for Hunger Relief Efforts Statewide

State officials are awarding five-million-dollars to expand hunger relief efforts statewide.  Governor Evers says Hunger Task Force Incorporated and Feeding Wisconsin will each receive two-and-a-half-million-dollars.  The funds come from the state’s 2025-27 biennial budget.  The organizations will use the funding to buy food that will be distributed to people and families across the state at no cost.  Evers says the program will ensure access to healthy, nutritious food while supporting local farmers and food producers.
